The College of Movie and Media of Sichuan Normal University was officially established on September 28, 2015. Under the guidance of the idea of "Strengthening the country through Talents", the College is based on the West of China, service movie and media industry and facing the whole country. It is characterized by drama, film and television creation and new media dissemination. It adheres to the integration of art and technology, theory and practice, cross-border humanities and science & technology. Adhering to the concept of "Higher Education Institutions, Creative Centers, Technological Bases", sticking to the principle of "broad specialty, strong foundation, emphasizing ability and high quality" of personnel training, and centering on personnel training, we should build a teaching and research-oriented college which is compatible with distinctive characteristics in literature, art, science and engineering. We should closely grasp the development trend of the movie and media industry and devote ourselves to cultivating the creative, production and operation talents of the media audio-visual industry in the all-media environment, and providing intellectual support and talent guarantee for the development of Western media and culture.

The College has 9 undergraduate majors: digital media art, drama film director, network and new media, digital media technology, radio and television science, broadcasting and hosting art, drama film and television art design, radio and television director, animation. Among them, the majors of network and new media are the first batch of such undergraduate majors in China. The major of radio and television science has been selected into the first batch of excellent journalism personnel training units in Sichuan Province. The major of digital media technology specialty has been selected into the National Ministry of Education Excellent Engineer Program. The majors of Radio and TV director is the first specialty in the same specialty in western colleges and universities in 1999. In addition, the College has the first batch of master's degree programs in theatre and Film Science in China. The College also enrolls postgraduates with a Master of Arts (MFA) degree in drama, film, radio and television, and plastic arts.

There are 2471 full-time undergraduates, 229 postgraduates and 129 faculty members, including 112 professional teachers, 33% of whom have senior professional titles, and 22 PhD graduates from China Academy of Art, Fudan University, China Media University, Sichuan University and Beijing Film Academy. Among professional teachers, 92% have doctoral and master's degrees.

In recent years, the College has obtained a total of 55 National, Ministry of Education, Sichuan and university-level scientific research projects, and a total of 7 horizontal projects. Among them, there are 8 national scientific research projects, 6 provincial and ministerial projects and 17 monographs.

The College also has “the Joint Laboratory of SICNU, Research and Development Center of Film Art Design and Game Design of Beijing Film Academy”; the Creation Base of SICNU, Central Network Film and Television Center of the Communist Youth League; the Creation Base of SICNU, the National Digital Technology Industry Revitalization Base (Chengdu Base); the Digital Media Technology Sub-Center, Key Laboratory of Visual Computing and Virtual Reality, Sichuan Science and Technology Department; the Western Film and Television Art and Industry Co-development Center; the New Media Research Institute; the Western Media Development Research Center and other research bases. There are professional computer rooms, professional studios, copy rooms, and fully functional experimental and training facilities and venues for journalism and communication to meet the needs of professional development and students' practical links. At the same time, it has more than 40 off-campus practice and training bases, and has good cooperative relations with relevant movie and media industries and fields both inside and outside the province.

Faced with new opportunities and challenges, the College of Movie and Media of Sichuan Normal University will be united, cooperative and enterprising, constantly improving its teaching quality and scientific research level. The College strives to cultivate creative, production and operation talents in the media audio-visual industry under the full media environment, and to provide intellectual support and personnel security for the development of Western media and culture.
