The College of Physical Education of Sichuan Normal University was established on the basis of the Department of Physical Education of Sichuan Normal University in 1993. Its predecessor was the Teaching Section of Physical Education, Department of Basic Course of Sichuan Teachers College. After the historical evolution of the Teaching Section of Physical Education and the Department of Physical Education, it was renamed the College of Physical Education in 2002.

The College now establishes Physical Education Department, Social Sports Department, Teaching Section for Postgraduates, Teaching Section for Public Sports, Teaching Section for Group Competition, Institute of Teaching Material & Teaching Method Research. It has two undergraduate majors of physical education teaching and social sports science, and master's degree authorization points of physical education training teaching and physical education specialty. There are 98 faculty members, including one academic and technical leader in Sichuan Province, 35 associate professors, 26 master's and doctoral degree teachers, 22 international and national referees, and more than 800 undergraduate students and 130 postgraduate students.

The College attaches great importance to the development of physical education, competitive sports and mass sports. It also attaches great importance to the construction of campus sports culture and the development of sunshine sports. On this basis, it strengthens the quality education of College students, strengthens the guidance of students' professional practice, highlights the characteristics of professional practice in running schools, and enhances their employment competitiveness. The employment rate and quality of college graduates have always been among the top sports majors in colleges and universities in Sichuan Province. With the strong support of the university, the College has successively hosted the Asian Middle School Students Basketball Championship, the Southwest CUBA Selection Competition, the Fifth National Normal University Students' Track and Field Games, Sichuan University Students' Track and Field Games and other major competitions. The high-level sports teams of SICUN women's basketball team, the orienteering cross-country team , the permanent representatives of track and field team, sports dance team, men's basketball team, football team, martial arts team, aerobics team, bodybuilding team, dragon and lion team, etc. have participated in many domestic and foreign competitions on behalf of Sichuan Province and SICNU and achieved excellent results.

The College attaches great importance to scientific research. Over the past few years, it has undertaken more than 70 national social science fund projects, provincial projects and university-level projects. It has published more than 40 monographs and textbooks, and published more than 300 scientific research papers.

The Institute of Physical Education now has 90,278 square meters of outdoor sports fields and 30,404 square meters of indoor gymnasium. Chonglong Campus has 3 standard plastic track and field fields, 2 standard swimming pools, 8 tennis courts, 30 outdoor basketball courts, a baseball and softball court and a comprehensive training hall (with gym, fitness equipment room, sports dance room, Wushu Taekwondo hall, table tennis hall, badminton hall, tennis hall, basketball hall, volleyball hall inside), these facilities are all available. Lion Mountain Campus has a standard plastic track and field, a standard swimming pool, two tennis courts, 20 outdoor basketball courts, one dry ice court, and one basketball competition hall.

There are three laboratories of sports physiology, sports health care and sports anatomy in the College of Physical Education. The advanced experimental instruments are electric acupuncture man mould, TDP therapeutic apparatus, electro-acupuncture therapeutic apparatus, low & medium frequency therapeutic apparatus, good life therapeutic apparatus, low frequency magnetic therapeutic apparatus, warm low cycle therapeutic apparatus, microwave physical therapeutic apparatus, one-drop blood test apparatus, cardiovascular risk assessment system, urine ten-item detector, lung function detector, power bicycle, bone mineral density detector, body composition detector, reaction time detector, 712 spectrophotometer, heart rate telemetry instrument, hemoglobin meter, oxygen detector, human model instrument, image processing instrument and so on in these three laboratories. There are five staff members including one professor, one doctoral student and three master students in the laboratory. The laboratory equipment is in good operation and maintenance and the laboratory management is standardized, which can fully meet the teaching and research needs of undergraduate and graduate students.
